The development of the network refers to investments for the expansion, reinforcement, renovation and modernization of the networks, as well as the necessary infrastructures, systems and equipment of the Network Operator and the Operator of the Non-Interconnected Islands, which mainly aim at:
- Meeting the electricity demand, including addressing changes in the generation or the load characteristics
- Satisfying the needs of network Users that wish to connect to the electricity network or modifying the existing connections
- Improving network’s reliability and the quality of services offered
- Ensuring compliance with the network operation security requirements and the protection of the environment
- Reducing the overall long-term costs of the Network
- The most cost-effective response to the duties of the network Operators
The development of the Network is planned on an annual basis. The main tool is the Network Development Plan (NDP), which is prepared by the Network Operator and approved by RAE. The NDP identifies the main network development aspects for a period of five years. The implementation of the development of the Network is monitored through Development Programs which are prepared on an annual basis by the Operator based on the current Development Plan of the Network.
This section contains information on planning and scheduling the development of the Network. More information on the criteria and related procedures can be found in the Hellenic Electricity Distribution System Operation Code.
